Anxiety in San Antonio, TX

Anxiety is a powerful emotion that can manifest in both emotional and physical forms, from persistent worry and tension to gastrointestinal disturbances and elevated blood pressure. While everyone experiences anxiety at some point, distinguishing between occasional anxiety and an anxiety disorder is crucial. At Serenity Mental Health Centers, our psychiatrists are dedicated to assisting patients in understanding whether they're dealing with temporary anxiety or an underlying anxiety disorder. We engage closely with each patient to assess the extent of their anxiety, identify the specific disorder present, and determine the most effective treatment approach. Facing this condition can be daunting, but our San Antonio, TX team is here to offer the necessary support and care to empower you to lead a fulfilling life.

Each person who comes to us brings a unique set of experiences and challenges, especially when it comes to anxiety, which can manifest in various forms, from generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) to social anxiety disorder and panic disorder. Understanding that there's no universal remedy for anxiety, we've cultivated a welcoming and secure atmosphere where patients can freely express their concerns, seek answers, and explore treatment possibilities. Our goal is to tailor a treatment plan that aligns with each individual's needs and values. To achieve this, we provide a range of anxiety treatments, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and ketamine IV therapy. Our dedicated team is committed to guiding each patient toward a path of better mental health.

Anxiety may result from a mix of genetic traits, environmental contexts, and psychological conditions. Incidents like trauma or major life adjustments can ignite anxiety episodes, with genetic traits and brain chemical balances also being influential. Typical signs of anxiety are continuous fretfulness, a feeling of unease, and physical reactions such as a fast heartbeat, perspiration, and tight muscles. Individuals with anxiety may have trouble focusing, feel easily irritated, and encounter sleep issues. Properly recognizing and addressing these triggers and symptoms is critical for successfully managing and treating anxiety.

Dr. Lundmark is the absolute best! I've had a lot of improvement since seeing him. The staff is always so welcoming and helpful. I did TMS here and it was a great experience. I definitely recommend!!

I’m so glad to have found Dr. Lundmark! Actually, all the Serenity staff members have always been kind and helpful. Dr. Lundmark is very easy to talk to, and actually respects my input regarding my treatment. That was not the case with multiple doctors I’d seen in the past. I absolutely recommend Dr. Lundmark and Serenity for anyone searching for a mental health practitioner.

Mental health is never a fun subject to have to come to terms with or understand but with Serenity, Victoria my TMS tech and Dr. Norman I have come to know that life is better when we allow ourselves to heal, and use the resources available to get help. This year I reached my lowest low but with the support of serenity and my TMS treatments with Victoria, I was able to learn healthy coping mechanisms, grounding techniques, how to be nicer to myself and helped every day tasks not feel so heavy. I cannot begin to express the gratitude, appreciation and admiration I have for Victoria and how she pours her heart into everyone she encounters, I truly believe the companionship she offered brought me back everyday, we laughed, cried, complained and reflected on my life a lot together. Even while Victoria was on a much deserved vacation Ash was an absolute ray of sunshine to encounter. I never doubted I was in good hands at Serenity, everyone is so personable, helpful and caring for their patients wellbeing. I do and will continue to recommend Serenity, TMS, Dr. Norman and Victoria to anyone I know who could benefit from their services.

My first meeting with Dr. Lundmark was great, he was thorough and eager to get me started on a treatment plan for my ADHD. The staff is all nice and the whole process is pretty efficient.

Are generalized anxiety disorder and general anxiety the same thing?

Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) and general anxiety differ significantly. General anxiety is a common response that many people experience in stressful or uncertain times, whereas generalized anxiety disorder is marked by a more intense and persistent worry about everyday matters. Individuals with GAD often experience excessive worry without a clear cause and struggle to break this cycle of anxiety.

What can I do if my partner has anxiety?

If your partner struggles with anxiety, it's crucial to understand that it's not something that can be simply switched off. However, with the appropriate support, assistance, and knowledge, your partner might be able to manage their anxiety more effectively. If your partner is dealing with anxiety, there are several supportive actions you can take:

  • Offer reassurance that everything will be alright
  • Remain calm and patient
  • Avoid placing blame or guilt on them
  • Inquire about how you can be of help in specific moments
Does anxiety run in families?

Having a family member with generalized anxiety disorder can increase your own risk of developing anxiety. There is evidence suggesting that genetics may influence this, but the exact mechanisms of how the condition is transmitted between family members remain uncertain.
